Try to Incorporate Physical Activity into Everything

  • Walk when you can.
  • Bicycle when you can (safely).
  • Incorporate body movement throughout your day and between scheduled events.
  • Plan for "margin" in your day and take time to move your body.

In our modern American society, a large number of us spend a lot of time indoors and on a computer. Remember the human body was made to move and be used. We were not designed to be sedentary. Try to incorporate physical activity into your daily activities as much as is possible. It will likely take some extra planning to do this as the default practice is often based on using a car to go from one chair to another.

Here are some ideas:

  • Try to use a bicyle for local errands -- in Florida and other areas where many roads are dangerous, we suggest utilizing sidewalks (often legal, click here) and simply slowing down at crossings and yielding to pedestrians (lights, and a bicyle bell are helpful).
  • Try to regularly walk with friends and/or family, for example, after meals.
